Compression StockingsBecause varicose veins alone do not cause major interference with the venous circulation, they may not cause any symptoms at all. However, the disease is progressive in nature, and if symptoms are left untreated, veins can become irreversibly damaged and unable to perform this “pumping” function they were designed to do. This condition is called chronic venous insufficiency. Chronic venous insufficiency (CVI) is defined as an inability to pump venous blood back toward the heart.
